about

2018 has arrived, and Jake Twell is kicking it off in spectacular fashion with a brand-new EP called Flow. The extended play consists of four unique floor filling tracks that are bound to send your January blues packing, and lend you some musical inspiration as we head toward spring.

First on the list is a song entitled ‘Himalaya’, and you can certainly imagine why within moments of hitting the play button. The song is perfectly layered, treating your ears to an invigorating tribal drum; whilst providing vocals which set the scene as they echo in the background. Enchanting vocals which are given a real time to shine during the breakdowns.

The second song on this musical roster is the one from which the EP earns its name. Flow begins in blissful simplicity. The flow to which it refers begins with just a trickling drumbeat. The trickle slowly builds as the song intensifies; eventually diversifying into a carnival of sounds. A similar vibe emanates from Flow as was presented in a more minimalistic sense by Himalaya, but Flow is arguably the more party appropriate of the two.

The midpoint of the EP takes us on a late-night drive with ‘U-Bahn’. U-Bahn lives up to its name sake, as it pays homage to the dark techno beats that reign supreme throughout the heavy night clubs, and industrial skeletons of Germany. The tune writhes and rocks about your ears creating a melodic trance. A trance that is occasionally cut through by the complementing vocals.

The EP ends with a gracious bow in the form of ‘Garbage Jam’. A track that immediately evidences the diverse sound that the selection has to offer. Garbage Jam raises the pulse that was set in the previous entries, opting for a prominent tech house vibe that ends the EP in a dizzying climax. The track is faster and more heavy hitting; making use of a deep electronic bass drum and accompanying high hats. A tune sure to feature on a Saturday night rave playlist.
