He’s back! Jake Twell is making a long awaited return with his new EP. His last one brought a dash of warmth to your freezing cold winter, this time he is switching things up and kicking off the start to a cool summer at 120 – 130 BPM. His new roster of rocking songs is entitled the Overnight EP. A careful selection of anthems from the time before traktor, that Twell has pulled apart, and then pieced back together with mechanical precision, giving them a whole new floor filling vibe for 2018, the soul and grace of the originals still very much intact.

Carl Thomas – Make it Alright (JT Overnight edit) – The first track on the EP takes us pulling out of the gates firing. Starting simplistically and then building quickly into fully fledged toe tapper, this tune has a really strong vibe to it where you can almost picture yourself grooving to it as the sun sets over a long summers afternoon. The soothing lyrical stylings are still working their magic too. Did you fail your exam and want a little cry, but do you also have a party to be at later? Listen no further. The whole song is a study in seasonal mastery, and when that xylophone comes in….

Kane Gang – Don’t Look Any Further (JT Overnight edit) – Next up is a track which comes in with a whole new octave of energy. If you were born after the 80’s, you have probably never had the opportunity to scream lyrics by Technotronic whilst pumping iron in a green lycra one piece, have no fear because you can do just that with this stonker. The nostalgic claps are there, and they come accompanied by infectious snares. The lyrics enticing, the whole track delivers a sense of urgency the likes of which Twell has yet to produce before. Play this to a group at weight watchers, and you’ll see pounds fly.

Nona Hendrix – Why Should I Cry? (JT Overnight edit) – Completing the trio is a house music homage to Nona Hendrix’s empowering masterpiece Why Should I Cry. It is an invigorating listen from start to finish, mixing some 21st tribal house elements, with a back drop that harkens back to Hawaiian shirts and non-ironic aviator shades. The beat will have you bobbing away in a trance, but the iconic long synth piano notes make you feel like you are sat upstairs blasting out GTA Vice City before mum calls you down for dinner, only you are a student, your mum is miles away, dinner was a microwave lasagne, and what you can smell is the gas that’s been left on. But it’s a nice thought to have.
