about

Lock up your grandmas because Jake Twell is back with a bang in 2019, showcasing yet more floor filling overnight edits to get you out of dry Jan, and straight into the party playlist with an all-night bender well and truly on the way. The red devil has delved into his turntable top hat to pull out three new tracks for your deprived ear canals.

Marvin Gaye - If This World Were Mine (Jake Twell Overnight Mix)

The opening track delivers a sound totally removed from anything that Twell has gone about mastering before, showing how this EP delivers versatility right out of the starting blocks. A sensual remix of ‘If This World Were Mine’ by Marvin Gaye, the song begins with a muffled beat that you would be forgiven for thinking might be ushering in a jacking house banger. What follows, however, is far more late night chill with a hint of euphoria. The soft synths and maracas complement truly pleasant lyrics to provide one of those tracks that you can really shut your eyes and lose yourself to. Play it in the background whenever the news comes on and live the rest of your life in blissful ignorance...sounds like a good deal to me.

Milo - Jungle Of Mirror (Jake Twell Overnight Edit)

The second track on offer for listening here is Twell’s go-getting remix of Jungle Of Mirror. Once again, a sound that stands alone when placed next to the other two tracks in the EP, this track definitely pays homage to the tech house trend that has made the Midlands the place to be for raves at around 140bpm. The lyrics are tantalising and cool, and the sound is layered and captivating. More than anything else the tune has a real sense of urgency about it. Like you’ve got 2 hours of dancing left before you have to pack it in, get home, sleep, wake up and prep for work and normality on Monday. Time to start really enjoying yourself while you still have the excuse.

Heartbreak & Toddla T - Blaze Up (Jake Twell Overnight Mix)

I thought it was just a coincidence that I could taste rum & fruit punch, but then I checked the title and saw that Mr.Twell is making bold new ground remixing the iconic sounds of Toddla T. This track is a cheeky way to close the EP, it has those infectious tribal drums that have become a creative mainstay in Twell’s more recent work, but with the addition of a distinct afro house vibe that gives the whole tune a little more bounce for the bass. After all, who better to give you a taste of tropical sunshine, than a man who is physically incapable of getting a tan. This tune is the perfect soundtrack to a bank holiday weekend!
